7 April, 2006 Update:
Hi All,
It's getting closer and I think we are all getting excited.
Just a quick note - check in will be Thursday, May 4th. You will see signs to the hospitality room. I am not sure if
I am going to arrive the evening of May 3rd or early on May 4th. I will have maps of Rota for us and schedules of what is
going on at the Rota Feria during the weekend.
Friday morning we have a bodega tour scheduled, Saturday morning - the base tour is still pending, I sent passport numbers
today. Sunday, church at either Chris Parker's Baptist church or catholic mass. I will have times put together when we get
there. The Feria has stuff going on all the time. Saturday at 7:30pm we will share a buffet meal together at the hotel at
a cost of $25 Euros that you can charge to your hotel room. The hospitality room will have soda, beer and wine and maybe
some junk food--this we will settle up on when we get there. I have attached a list of those coming as of today, April 5th.
I will send something out when it gets just a bit more put together so it looks nice and neat. Just thought you all might
be getting anxious for more news.
Claudia

Hi to all fellow VR-ians,
I am sending this out to all people on my email VR mailing list to keep everyone informed not only the ones going, but
also to those who have replied to let me know they will not be attending so we all stay informed. If anyone wants me to remove
them from this list and doesn’t want the updates. Please by all means let me know. Thanks...Claudia
Thank you for being very patient waiting for all of this information. There has been many phone calls back and forth
to Spain. There have been some changes. If you have any questions either call me (920) 434-9191 or email me back.
The major change. We will be staying at the Hotel Playa de la Luz.
This is the hotel that was there many years ago, when we were-but has been updated and expanded. However, it has 275
rooms and can accommodate a group our size. The Hotel Duque de Najera has only 84 rooms and as our group grew larger, they
were unable to accommodate us. They contract out rooms to various European travel agencies and do not have the space to block...
So, we will be staying at the Hotel Playa de la Luz. The website is www.hotelplayadelaluz.com . You can either call
them at 01 34 9568 10500 or email them at reservas@hotelplayadelaluz.com . If you email them, make sure you get some type
of confirmation back. Make sure you tell them that you are with the Navy Reunion VR-24 group, May 4-7, 2006 (3 nights).
They are holding
60 rooms in our block. I have been speaking with Ms. Pilar Leon, the assistant manager at the hotel. She has assured
me that anyone that you speak to can handle your reservation. But you MUST let them know that you are part of the group.
When you call in have your credit card ready. They will not charge your card until you arrive at the hotel. You are
only guaranteeing that you will be there. If you guarantee your room and will not be there and you do not call them-then
your card will be charged. If you decide to use a different credit card you can let them know upon arrival. They have also
agreed to honor the same price that we will receive for May 4-7 for any extra nights that you will be staying.
When I received the information as far as prices I went to all of the favorite websites to compare prices. I checked
on Travelcity, Hotels.com, Travelhero, etc. and with the 10% discount the hotel rate was the same or lower and the cancellation
policies booking with the hotel are lenient. So booking with the group via the hotel is the best price. They guarantee that
these prices will not change, but of course the exchange rate for the Euro could change. We pay current exchange rates when
we check in. So let's hope for a good rate of exchange for next May.
As stated in the letter below, our hospitality room will be included if we maintain the 30 rooms. You can take an extra
10 % off the listed price. The prices listed below are in Euros. Example: the Standard cost of a room with two people is
120 Euros. With the exchange rate the cost would be 146.16 (this will change). With the 10% discount your room cost would
be 131.55. This includes your 7% tax and breakfast/brunch buffet.
The extra charges will be for our meal together on May 6th, possibly lunch on base or somewhere in town on May 5th and
the cost of beverages for the hospitality room. As decisions are made as to where and cost of those two meals I will let
you know how that will be handled as go forward in our planning.
[Miguel Note - Received an e-mail from Claudia 8/4/04 - she wanted to mention "if something changes in peoples lives,
they can always cancel their hotel... because the hotel will not be charged out until we get there."]
Below is the letter that I received from the assistant manager:
----------------------------------------
Dear Mrs. Ryczkowski,
Further to our conversation, we are very pleased to block 60 rooms for your NAVY REUNION VR-24 GROUP, MAY 4-7, 2006 (3
nights). We can give you a total of 5 superior rooms, 8 junior suites and 10 family junior suites. The rest should be standard
rooms.
You can find a complete room description in our web www.hotelplayadelaluz.com
Daily rate in Euros per room would be:
Std / Superior-Delux / Junior Suite /Family Suite
1 person 96 / 113 / 126 / 132
2 persons 120 / 143 / 155 / 164
3persons No / 154 / 167 / 174
(over 13 years old)
3 persons 120 / 143 / 153 / 164
(2 adt.+ 1 child under 13)
4 persons No / 148 / 16? / 169
(2 adt. + 2 children under 13)
Rates include 7% tax and free breakfast/brunch buffet.
If the number of rooms is at least 30, we will give a group discount of 10%.
We will give those rates to the additional nights that people may require, before or after the reunion dates.
The meeting room would be at no charge if the number of rooms is a minimum of 30. If not it would cost 140 Euros per
day.
The best way to confirm the rooms will be to have people call us and say that they are attending the NAVY REUNION VR-24
IN MAY 2006. We will be taking the rooms confirmed for the blocked ones.
We have large experience in organizing meetings for the Naval Base ar d Nato.
We will do our best to assure the success of your Navy Reunion.
Thanking you for your interest and looking forward for your news.
Sincerely,
Assistant Manager

I will be sending another email out in couple of days, with the list of people that I have heard from that are going and
are not going... Hopefully, by the end of the week.
Thanks again for being patient.
